Remodeling: Selecting the Perfect Finishing Touches

Cabinet Ideas For Your Kitchen Remodel

The cabinets are one of the most important elements in a kitchen remodel, not only in terms of providing functional storage but also for the room's aesthetics. Here are several trends and styles to consider.

Grey

One current trend you could tap into is the Scandinavian style—by selecting neutral shades of grey for your cabinetry. In keeping with this look, choose flat panel doors with simple, clean lines rather than contoured models. While grey harmonises with almost any colour scheme, consider pairing it with white to maintain the minimalist aesthetic. For instance, you could install white benchtops and splashbacks. When adding other elements, keep the overall design uncluttered, simple, and airy, and incorporate texture—in the form of light timber flooring, for instance. A bonus of grey cupboards is that they hide dirt and are easy to keep clean.

Two-Toned Cabinets

Another trend to consider is two-toned cabinetry. This doesn't mean that one door features two colours, rather that the upper cupboards feature a different hue to the lower ones underneath the benchtop. A popular combination is white for the topmost cabinets and black, navy, or chocolate for the ones below. This duo-tone provides a double benefit. It creates contrast and interest in the kitchen decor, plus it adds airiness and brightness to the design via the light-reflecting white. When implementing this theme, reserve the dark shade for the bottom row of cupboards to ground the space.

Different Shades Of White

The benefits of all-white cabinets are that they brighten and enhance the entire kitchen—and they harmonise with many diverse kitchen styles. Whites vary though; they have various undertones and tints. To brighten up a dark room, choose crisp white for your cupboards in an all-white kitchen. This will freshen up the space and make it feel new. In contrasting decors with dark counters and splashbacks, soft-white cabinets will work better, providing a foil, and a resting point for the eye.

If your kitchen is traditional or vintage, creamy white joinery will perfectly enhance the aesthetic. This shade also harmonises with other whites, so you could combine it with ivory walls, for instance. Greyish whites blend with stainless steel appliances and silver metallic splashbacks, so it is an excellent option if your kitchen has these elements. Remember that in isolation a white can look neutral, but when juxtaposed against other whites or colours, its accents and casts show through. So, view any white sample against other shades that will be in its environment.
